PM-WANI Scheme Free Wifi
Affordable, low-cost Wi-Fi access, but it is generally not free for the end user.
CURRENT UPDATES
The way we connect to the internet is changing, and it’s happening right in your neighborhood! You know how you buy a small pack of biscuits or a cold drink at your local shop? Soon, you’ll be able to buy a small pack of fast, affordable internet there too. This change is thanks to a big government plan called PM-WANI (Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface).
Think of PM-WANI as a simple way to create millions of tiny public Wi-Fi stations everywhere. It’s a bit like making the internet available through small vending machines, except these "machines" are the existing shops and businesses around you.
The main idea is simple: Any small business can become a PDO, or Public Data Office. This means a tea stall, a tailor shop, or a Kirana store can set up a small Wi-Fi router. They use their own internet connection and then sell access to it to people passing by.
It’s Cheaper: Right now, if you use your phone’s data outside, it can get expensive quickly. PM-WANI lets you buy small data plans for a very low price—maybe just ₹5 or ₹10 for a certain amount of time or data. This makes the internet affordable for everyone, especially students and people who do not have big data plans.
It’s Easier for Shops: The government made it very easy for the shop owner (the PDO) to start. They don't need a special license or pay a big fee. They just need to register online. This gives them a new, simple way to earn extra money every month.

It Reaches Everyone: Mobile network signals can be weak in crowded markets or small villages. By setting up many small Wi-Fi hotspots, the PM-WANI scheme ensures that fast internet reaches places where large mobile towers cannot easily go. This helps close the gap between cities and villages, bringing everyone into the "Digital India" family.
